Baisa Hukum
The
factory owner sat relaxed in his night pajamas as he gulped down another glass
of his favourite whiskey. He had finished his second bottle and was about to
open the third when he remembered that he should stop after all the next day
would demand a bigger celebration. His proposal to one of biggest investors was
about to be accepted and with their money he had plans of settling himself into
a new life.
“Tomorrow
will be the day my new life will begin,” he told himself and went to bed.
On
the other side, inside her cabin a young lady finished her report and pressed
send. Her report held within it all details of the illegal deals, unethical work tactics and
worker exploitation that had been taking place in the factory. Tomorrow the
owner would consequences of his actions at the hands of her boss.
“This
is wrong” the owner screamed as all of his dirty laundry was aired out in the
meeting. His illegal deals, dirty work tricks, non-payment of employee salaries
and his plan of escape to middle east. “We had a deal.”
“I
do not remember signing any contract” the lady said calmly. She sat at the head
of the table with her personal assistant beside her typing away the minutes of
the meeting.
“We
are done here. You will sale the factories to me and in return your dirty work
will stay under covers. That’s the deal I can offer you and nothing else, Maan
Singh.”
Her
PA finished typing as Maan Singh walked out of the office holding the file with
his dirty laundry. She looked at her boss who took a sip of her coffee and
checked her phone for messages.
“You
know the rest,” her boss stood up. “Also, remember I will be taking my annual
leave shortly so if there is any important paperwork that needs my attention
then the departments have to send it to me by tomorrow evening.”
“Ji
Ma’am” Jiwa responded with a smile as she closed her laptop and followed her
boss out.
In
the evening, Jiwa sat stunned alongside her baba Vajra Singh as her boss placed
the files on the table
“Kakasa
you are an expert on these products, all the workers and management team
respect you and have a strong relationship with you. Please consider our proposal and head the production management.
You will be solely in-charge and a shareholder for us. I will take my leave now
but I will wait for your call.”
Jiwa
stared as the car vanished from her sight and returned inside to find her baba
sitting with the paperwork. He looked at her and then at his late wife’s
picture hanging on the wall,
“She
is something, your boss” he smiled. “When Maan Singh and the others took
everything from us, for a minute I thought it was our end and that my
principles had failed. But Baijilal hukum came into our lives and turned it
around. She took charge of your education and upbringing while I worked under
her and now look, she wants me to be an equal partner”
Jiwa
nodded her head as she remembered the way Baisa Hukum took care of her and
helped her with her tasks and assignments. She was trained under her watchful
eyes and now she worked as her personal assistant.
“Jiwa”
Vajra Singh stood up, “please make an appointment for me. I will like to
personally meet Baijilal and inform her of my decision.”
Inside
her car, she sighed looking at all the notifications from her social media
platforms but the latest one made her smile. It was from google calendar that
highlighted her schedule for the next day and at exact 11:00 am she had an
appointment with Vajra Singh.
A
dance party was taking place at the residence as all the children danced their
hearts out alongside the adults. Their Rani hukum was a fun-loving woman who loved
to have impromptu dance parties for the employee’s children as well as young
ones living close to her home.
Saubhagyawati sat on the couch her feet tapping
as the music echoed through the living room but all of a sudden, the music shut
down forcing her to look up and standing at the doorstep, the guard announced
“Baisa
hukum is coming!!”
Within
minutes the whole scene changed as everyone rushed to put things in order. Maids
helped children get out of the back-door entrance while the kitchen went into
super active mode to get the dinner ready. Rani Hukum adjusted her veil and straightened her pearl necklace before sitting down as a proper lady.
The car entered the driveway and two
servants moved out the trash, while others straightened the vase and put
everything back in order. At
exactly 8:00 pm the doors opened and guards announced,
"Baisa Hukum has returned."
She entered and went straight to the lady, "Maasa I'm home."
The lady smiled as she kissed her forehead, "how was your day, Ajabde?"
